Yeerongpilly Rail Commuters Abandoned

LNP Candidate for Yeerongpilly, Julianna Kneebone, today called on the State Labor Government to reintroduce the Yeerongpilly stop on the Brisbane - Gold Coast rail service.

Ms Kneebone said she presented a petition signed by 115 local residents to Ms Fiona Simpson, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Main Roads and Transport, to be tabled in Parliament this week.

“The State Labor Government has let local residents down by abolishing this critical stop on the intercity and Beenleigh commuter line.”

“Now more than ever additional services are critical, with tournaments at the State Tennis Centre due to commence in January 2009.”

“With no additional train services being added by the State Government to cope with demand by Tennis Centre patrons, local commuters will be left fighting for a seat in peak periods.”

“No doubt the Premier Anna Bligh and her team will be enjoying their chauffer driven, champagne hospitality during the tennis, leaving local residents to sweat it out on overcrowded trains.”

Ms Kneebone said she would be working closely with Lawrence Springborg and Fiona Simpson to improve services and their reliability for local residents and commuters.
