LNP candidate for Yeerongpilly, Julianna Kneebone, today called on the Bligh Labor Government to come clean on its secret development plans for the Yeronga High School and Yeronga TAFE site.
Ms Kneebone said that a secret State Government plan is currently being considered to sell off part of the site to developers and to relocate the TAFE and School.
“The State Labor Government needs to come clean with the community about their plans for the Yeronga educational precinct.”
“To date there has been no broad public consultation. It is outrageous that the State Labor Government is keeping local residents who live in the area in the dark about their plans.”
“The community should have the opportunity to have their say about any plans to sell the site and it future possible uses.”
The site, bounded by Villa St, Park Rd, Yeronga and Oakwood St, Broadmere St Annerley and the rail line, has extensive city views.
Mrs Kneebone said the State Government had failed to invest in new infrastructure for the school over many years, with major work now needed to bring the School’s assets up to modern standards.
“After years of neglect, the State Government is now considering putting this valuable inner city land up for sale to the highest bidder.”
“Our student’s future should not be determined by cash grab from a State Government under financial pressure.”
“The State Government should come clean and engage in an open and transparent discussion with the community about their plans.”
